Main tasks
The position is integrated into the DFG Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1648 "Emerging Viruses: Pathogenesis, Structure, Immunity", which focuses on emerging viral infections and their impact on global health. The newly established CRC 1648 aims to gain a deep understanding of virus-host interactions, structure, pathophysiology and immunity to specific emerging viral infections. For the subproject - Metagenomics in Emerging Viral Infections - we are looking for a research assistant with proven bioinformatics expertise. The project focusses on pathogen detection in sequence data, with the integration of pathogen and host transcriptome data for improved prediction of infectious diseases. The subproject will be located in the working group of Prof Dr Nicole Fischer.
Your tasks: - Analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and other molecular biology data sets
- Processing of research projects for the development of metagenomics software platforms in infection diagnostics
- Development, implementation and validation of bioinformatics pipelines for processing and visualizing large amounts of data
- Automation of workflows and data processing to increase efficiency
- Establishment of current NGS-based biomarkers in routine diagnostics
Your profile
- Completed scientific university degree in bioinformatics or a related field of study
- Business fluent in German and good command of English
- Knowledge of sequence analysis, virus genomics, scripting languages
- Profound knowledge in the analysis of NGS data and other molecular technologies
- Knowledge in the application and development of bioinformatics software and databases (e.g. Ensembl, COSMIC, dbSNP)
- Solid knowledge of Linux
- Interest in virology, microbiology and molecular diagnostics
Commitment, coordination and organizational skills, quick comprehension, independence, ability to work in a team and very good communication skills
